If you want to do some changes on video and audio parameters, you can click on “Settings” button to realize it. The pop-up window will allow you to adjust bit rate, frame rate, codec, aspect ratio, sample rate, and so on.

If it’s an ordinary uncompressed AVI file (e.g. from a screen-recording program like FRAPS, Xfire) then the file will be enormously huge, as in at least several hundred megabytes. Check the filesize in Windows Explorer, and if it is then compress the video using a program like ffmpeg before you upload.
If you convert from one lossy compressed format to another (as you are here), there will be some loss in quality, especially if you keep the new file size the same or smaller than the original.

The simple fact is that avi is compressed by quite a bit, and mp4 really isn’t compressed at all, so the file is always going to be larger if you keep the same quality.
You could make the file smaller by changing your conversion settings so that the new video is a lesser resolution than the original, but it wouldn’t look quite as good.
